A. That's not a useful thing I care about nor should you (in the context of the current state of things) and B. I don't oppose AI as a concept. I oppose it as an emblem of the failure of our systems of governance to serve the common man. I oppose the implementation that people colloquially mean when they say AI, I have nothing against tensor blobs and I more or less wish intellectual property was abolished.
- dyauspitr 2mo agoA robot that does all of the chores in your house and outside your house is not useful? I’m going to stop reading right there.
- thot_experiment 2mo agoNot in the current context no, opportunity costs exist.
- handoflixue 2mo agoWell, given that stunning list of zero opportunity costs, I'm sure forced to reconsider my stance. Very persuasive!
- owebmaster 2mo agoDo you think we are anywhere near that? Do you have a vacuum cleaner robot?
- shawn_w 2mo agoRoombas have been a thing for many years, long before the current llm craze.
- DangitBobby 2mo agoAnd they are completely useless.
- democracy 2mo agoTouche, a more or less decent pool robot cleaner is around 3k and doesn't last more than a few years without changing every part but the case itself. Ok I take it - it operates in somewhat "hostile" environment but the point still stands
- burnt-resistor 2mo agoBack in my day (80's-90's), our Polaris vac-sweep was pretty simple reliable. Late stage capitalism / neoliberalism made it worse. It didn't need an LLM or deep learning to do its job because it would randomly crawl around so long that it was on. I don't understand adding complexity, fragility, or cost to a solved problem, but I guess there are enough people who engage in competitive conspicuous consumption to signal status.
- dyauspitr 2mo agoYes we are. It’s all very recent and physical AI is exploding now. Here is literally a 3 hour autonomous stream of a robot folding and stacking clothes. https://youtu.be/a2HZyURUE_o?is=2fCIZRpNxkCFP-83 https://youtu.be/a2HZyURUE_o?is=2fCIZRpNxkCFP-83
- icepush 2mo agoIs this an actual, real example, or is the robot being operated by an off-screen human being ?
- dyauspitr 2mo agoAutonomous
- iwontberude 2mo agoThose folds are bad, I like my folds tighter than that
- dyauspitr 2mo agoGood for you, literally everyone else will take this fold over doing laundry themselves.
