Show HN: GeoChess – open-source geography strategy game
The rules are really simple. Players take turns claiming a country that shares a land border with the current one. You lose if you have no valid moves left.
I'd appreciate any feedback.

- gagandeeprangi1 2mo agoThis looks really nice. Something new to play with friends on game nights, will try this one out.
- spider-hand 2mo agoHi thanks for your comment. Hope you enjoy it!
- gus_massa 2mo agoI expected the countries to be a painted when they are selected.
- spider-hand 2mo agoThanks for your feedback! If they are visually selected on the map during the game, I thought it would be too easy. Maybe I can add an option to let users see which countries have already been used on the map.
- gus_massa 2mo agoI don't see any selection neither. It may be nice to start in the same continent of the player. I know better the countries near here [Argentina]. North America is quite linear, so it may be boring to plat there.
- spider-hand 2mo ago> I don't see any selection neither. Yes it's intentional. I thought if players can see the selection during the game, it is not challenging. > It may be nice to start in the same continent of the player. I think letting a user select a continent is a good idea.
- gus_massa 2mo agoIt's too hard. I know enough geography to play only in a few parts of the map. How good is the AI? We made a few mathematical games a few years ago and our problem was that the computer used perfect strategy. We had to add an easy mode. Perhaps your AI can have an easy model that does a shallow search to avoid stupid errors.
- spider-hand 2mo agoOk thanks for the feedback. I will add an option to show the used countries during the game. > How good is the AI? Perhaps your AI can have an easy model that does a shallow search to avoid stupid errors. Yeah even though it says AI mode, it is just based on a simple algorithm, otherwise, players can never win. Just made a small difference between the difficulty.
- gus_massa 2mo agoFeature request?: Bridges like in Risk?
- chrisra 2mo agoLoaded it on a pixel phone, saw a list of countries with no context about what picking one meant, saw a map but didn't understand how to interact with it, and that was about it.
- spider-hand 2mo agoHi thanks for your feedback and also sorry for confusion. The goal is basically to to leave your opponent with no valid neighboring countries to choose on their turn. I will think about how I can improve the onboarding.
- tmgldn 2mo agoLike it! However Denmark and Sweden apparently aren't "connected"! Which is fine of course, but would be nice if the rules made that clear!
- spider-hand 2mo agoThanks for your feedback! Maybe I could have a thread somewhere to receive requests for data correction. Not all data might not be accurate.
- mthoms 2mo agoI played about 8 rounds and I still don't understand the goal.

- ben-gy 2mo agoThis is interesting - I’ve been messing around with AI generated games - I get about 50% out-of-the box ready to play intuitively now but it took a lot of refinement of the prompt to get there - I’ll tell my ai to have a go at this one and see what it produces (will credit op for the inspiration).
- spider-hand 2mo agoHi thanks for your comment. I am guessing it's still pretty hard to generate almost the entire project at one time with a prompt. (I personally never tried it but even with this project, I split into small steps and took time to review it.) I'm curious about what you create let me know if there is an update!
