There is no "Free" or "Pay as You Go" plan. Also, the Standby Mode $10/mo, not $5. As for it being "extremely confusing", that's highly subjective so I won't comment, but it's definitely standard UI and I think it took me less than 8 clicks to first downgrade then cancel my plan.
