Show HN: Stacks – an hourly card solitaire about building four gardens
- graynk 2mo agoLooks cool. You might wanna invest in having a proper tutorial that would play the actual cards onto the field and show them interacting. The wall of text with the rules is hard to parse, to be honest
- shinybrick 2mo agoI love the variety of plants/creatures and the pixel art (handmade, or AI-generated?). Didn't fully understand the rules so randomly picked cards. I want to keep playing and brute-force my way to understanding, but I have to wait to try again! A practice mode or tutorial (as graynk mentioned) would be a nice add.
- PeterWolfframm 2mo agoHey! Might i ask, how did you create the beautiful pixel art for this game?
- vunderba 2mo agoNot OP, but it looks to be AI generated which was then heavily downscaled in size, since if you zoom in you can still see the usu. telltale suspects such as weird purple/pink/blue color artifacts, etc. Here's some quick similar examples I generated using Ideogram v4 running locally on my machine. You could also use a multimodal model such as gpt-image-2, give it a specific example jpg (e.g. tiger swallowtail butterfly) and ask it to re-render it as "8-bit pixel art". https://imgpb.com/wTHcRqQ https://imgpb.com/wTHcRqQ
- uproarchat 2mo agoVery cool! Is this also hosted on plan9 per chance?
- weego 2mo agoI love how this game looks, but the rules and scoring are completely impenetrable and worse, non-intuitive. There doesn't seem to be a connection between what's going to happen with the score vs whats on the card. like, is a white oak connected somehow to a bird more than it would be to a fly or bee (carpenter or otherwise)? Do newts and frogs have a connection to a heron? if not why are they the things they are?
- gs17 2mo agoI'm pretty sure the different animals/plants are just themed suits of cards and which one has which number doesn't matter.

- bradym 2mo agoI've played 3 games and still have no idea how scoring actually works.
