Then I think that terrible labor laws are the main problem, not inequality
- 59percentmore 3mo agoThe terrible labor laws exist because of the inequality. The people with servants write the laws and, in their magnaminity, don't let the servants vote.
- argentinian 3mo agoYou are writing about democratic countries. Everyone votes. I sense that you're pointing to a different problem.
- oblio 3mo agoEven in democracies, voting can be distorted. Gerrymandering, lobbying, revolving doors, plain old bribes, etc.
- argentinian 3mo agoSo, corruption is the problem, not inequality.
- 59percentmore 3mo agoCorruption is a enabled by inequality.
- argentinian 3mo agoThere is rich people that steal from rich people. There are many cases of corruption where poverty is not a factor.
- 59percentmore 3mo agoThey steal from those they have the power to steal from. Power is measured as a delta from a baseline. If corruption requires power, it requires inequality.
- argentinian 3mo agoThere's is poor people who exploit other poor people. Poor people that sends children to work for example. Only the rich can use power for evil? A stronger or armed person has a power differential with a weaker person. A smarter person has more power than a dumber one. And it's impossible for the smarter one to lend intelligence to another, and to the stronger one to give muscles to the weaker one. And in spite of this, many humans behave compassionately and respect laws.
- 59percentmore 2mo ago>A stronger or armed person has a power differential with a weaker person. A smarter person has more power than a dumber one. These are all examples of inequality. >There's is poor people who exploit other poor people. Poor people that sends children to work for example. Only the rich can use power for evil? Rich people have greater reach to do evil commensurate with their wealth. It is a matter of such a degree that it becomes a qualitative difference. >And it's impossible for the smarter one to lend intelligence to another, and to the stronger one to give muscles to the weaker one. Did you think before you wrote this? It would be better to just admit that you're wrong.
- argentinian 2mo agoIf as you say, corruption requires inequality, and there are inequalities that cannot be leveled, like strength and intelligence, and power, then monetary equality won't stop corruption. In a hierarchical organization like a government there will be different power levels. So, there are inequalities you cannot level. And you suggest that reducing wealth inequality will make the world better. I don't know, I still believe that aiming at reducing poverty is a better goal. Why? Because without poverty people won't suffer because of survival needs. And without inequality you don't guarantee that there's no poverty. To me, only a very envious person would put equality over reducing poverty.
