IMO the power of NixOS is at the other extreme. Set it up with Impermanence (https://wiki.nixos.org/wiki/Impermanence https://wiki.nixos.org/wiki/Impermanence) and reboot often.
Also worth flagging if you are only ever switching in new configs Kernel patches, firmware, or updates to systemd won’t apply until next boot.
- anon291 3mo agoI usually kexec into new kernels, but rarely, I do reboot for firmware updates. My system is rebooted sometimes due to power, and while it comes back just fine... there's no need to reboot a computer that works.
