Bandcamp has laid off most of their engineers
- dweinus 4mo agoCustomer and/or musician rug pull in 3...2...
- bpev 4mo agofwiw, currently moving my music to subvert.fm. In the past, Bandcamp has been the first place I pointed people. But have slowly felt more and more uncomfortable with it ever since the initial Epic acquisition.
- znpy 4mo ago> In the past, Bandcamp has been the first place I pointed people. I've stopped enthusiastically recommending services to people because i've seen too many service turn into shit, and then i felt awful for getting friends and family into issues with enshittified services.
- roryirvine 4mo agoThey've lasted longer than I thought they would, especially after they were destabilised so badly by the initial (likely deliberately vindictive) layoffs back in 2023. It's such a pity - Bandcamp was hugely important in the 2010s, and ought to have been able to continue building on that success. They remained profitable until well after the acquisition, but Epic and Songtradr decided to destroy it for very little gain.
- jjraden 4mo agoThat link is broken, but this link from the same user seems relevant: https://bsky.app/profile/grmnygrmny.bsky.social/post/3mpgvo7l2v22t https://bsky.app/profile/grmnygrmny.bsky.social/post/3mpgvo7...
- ciotog 4mo agoYeah, they changed their username from grmnygrmny.bandcamp.com to grmnygrmny and Bluesky invalidated all of the existing links to the original posts. One of the reasons why Bluesky isn't a viable alternative yet to other social media platforms...
- rendaw 4mo agoThis is terrifying... are there any other decent indie music marketplaces? And even more, why kill this? How could it possibly not have been profitable?
