What is the US "winning" by pissing off their allies?

  Who needs allies when you can have a digital god to subjugate those allies into proper vassals? I know this is an insane statement, but I think much of current American foreign policy can be explained by the belief that their technology makes allies unnecessary.

  Ask yourself the same question, but replace it with France kicking out NATO or New Zealand kicking out the Americans. What did they gain by pissing off their allies, and what have been the honest long term effects for the country in question?
