John McAfee arrested in Belize
- rpm4321 14y agodoh!
- ComputerGuru 14y agodoh! Please keep comments that do not add any meaningful contributions to the discussion off of HN.
- huhtenberg 14y ago"Doh!" is a minimalist emotional response that allows its poster to succinctly express his impression and thoughts on the subject posted. It just happens that this impression is conveniently described in just 4 letter glyphs. On the other hand your comment doesn't add any meaningful contribution to the discussion, nor does it bring any new meta-discussion subject to the table. So please keep such comments off HN, especially when they are directed at someone with 500+ karma.
- nodemaker 14y agoArgh! emotional response || 500+ karma || succulent expression of thoughts and impressions != meaningful contribution.
- ximeng 14y agoWas wondering why this read wrong: succinctly.
- huhtenberg 14y agoIndeed. Thanks, fixed.
- rpm4321 14y agoI'm sorry, but this whole situation - which is not typical HN fare in itself, let's face it - is just such an absurdist farce that no other comment could really do it justice. It really is Simpsons-esque: Wikipedia - In 2001, the word "Doh" was added to the Oxford English Dictionary;[8][9] The definition given is:[8][10] Expressing frustration at the realization that things have turned out badly or not as planned, or that one has just said or done something foolish. Also (usu. mildly derogatory): implying that another person has said or done something foolish (cf. DUH int.). The headword spelling is doh, but d'oh is listed as a variant (as is dooh). The etymology section notes "the word appears (in the form D'oh) in numerous publications based on The Simpsons".[8] Eight quotations are cited: the earliest is from 1905; two others are Simpsons-related.
- stfu 14y agoThere seems to be much speculation going on. I would say the headline is misleading. All the post does state is, that they haven't been able to contact McAfee and they had an anonymous phone call mentioning an arrest. Judging by McAfee's level of crazyness, any hasty conclusions from such a situation seem highly speculative.
- sami36 14y agoHe's been giving so many contradicting & misleading stories about his whereabouts, I would take these latest "news" with a mountain of (bath) salt.
- marvin 14y agoI am completely unfamiliar with this situation. What has actually been going on with McAffee lately, and how does this situation tie into it? Is everybody sure that we're not getting all worked up about what will turn out to be a psychiatric diagnosis?
- techinsidr 14y agoDoesn't appear to be confirmed whatsoever. That rumor was based on an "anonymous" phone call. On Sunday, another report shows the complete opposite, with Belize officials denying any claims of his capture: http://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2012/12/02/Official-denies-John-McAfee-was-captured/UPI-73021354475801/ http://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2012/12/02/Official-d...
- iKlsR 14y agoi wonder if he will get a 30 day trial..
- biff 14y agoHe is now apparently safe with his girlfriend outside Belize with a couple of folks from Vice Magazine, and the guy that was arrested was deliberate smokescreen on McAfee's part. http://www.whoismcafee.com/i-am-safe/ http://www.whoismcafee.com/i-am-safe/ If the plot gets any thicker it'll be impenetrable soon. Guy should have written chess software while he was at it.
- stfu 14y agoVice Magazine & McAfee are like a match made in heaven. Glad to see that they made their way down to Belize.
- aptwebapps 14y agoNow he says he safe: http://www.whoismcafee.com/i-am-safe/ http://www.whoismcafee.com/i-am-safe/ Last three sentences bring the usual dose of crazy.
- frani12 14y agoGuys i have a question is Mcafee safe?
- Ntrails 14y agoFor some reason I misread that as "Guys, I have a question, is Mcafee sane?"
