Tesla remotely disabled the €6,200 FSD feature I had used for months
- bartoszhernas 4mo agoHello, Just posting to spread awareness. You may say what I did was wrong or not, but that is not the core of the issue here. The thing I want to spread is that: according to Tesla you do not own your car. You could have purchased heated seats via mobile app (called Winter Package) and later have it remotely removed by Tesla cloud config update. Currently almost all features in the car are software controlled. Technically Tesla can, and now showed they have the will, to disable part of your cars one by one if they do not like what you did with it. It's like AUDI not liking your custom exhaust or ECU, and then disabling your heated seats and cruise control. Mind you there was no modifications to the car hardware or software. It's like if Apple would disable your cameras because they did not like type of USB-C pendrive you plugged in the phone. I will be looking now deeply into jailbreaking car properly because this thing is just too scary. Next time they just remove my keycard and app access so no one can drive my car "for greater good"?
- Almondsetat 4mo agoTesla reserves the right to disable FSD and it's explicitely stated in the conditions. If you drive carelessly they might disable it for a certain amount of time or kick you out directly. It's no news
- bartoszhernas 4mo agoSure, but I never accepted any conditions for that. You also missed the point where they removed non-connected safety features that they charged me for. STOP signs recognition is gone from my car, something I used to depend on while driving in non-FSD country. This was part of 8000EUR package. Poof, gone, no refund, no communication from Tesla. If they put in TOS that they can brick the car fully if you insult Elon, does it make it right? Tomorrow your car just stops driving, because you over speed for example? Hell no
- enslavedrobot 4mo agoDude, you were messing with the canbus network. If FSD got into an accident because of some communication failure it could potentially cost the company billions of dollars and get people killed. I would do the same thing.
- SilverElfin 4mo agoWe need new consumer protection laws against these evil corporate overlords
- bartoszhernas 4mo agoI fully agree. I think current ones are also enough but corporations do not care. They blocked 800 peoples car, what are we gonna do agains trillion dollar corporation here?
- JSR_FDED 4mo agoI want a super simple car with analog gauges, and an electric motor instead of a petrol engine. I want to enjoy the benefits of mechanical simplicity and reduced environmental impact. I don’t want an always-connected computer on wheels. Is that too much to ask?
- bartoszhernas 4mo agoI think Porsche Taycan has an "airplane mode" where there is no connection to the servers etc. Your best bet if probably some retro EV resto mod
- pickleglitch 4mo agoI will surely get down-voted for this, but at this point if you buy a Tesla you get what you fucking deserve.
- verzali 4mo agoShouldn't have purchased a tesla, really.
