- godshatter 4mo agoThis divide will never heal. I have no idea of how to get either side interested in the idea. I don't see a path to victory from any direction.

- whatthesmack 4mo agoThere's no plurality on "the right" that holds the perspectives you're attributing to them. What you've stated is the pristine modern example of propaganda and is exactly why there is no healing.

- deathanatos 4mo agoFine, "the right" is not a solid, well-defined group, and s/the right/the GOP/. What upthread wrote is practically the stated position of the GOP (as much as one can delineate the stated position, since the current platform is literally Trump-rambling style writing, complete with caps-lock style screaming…), and it's the political viewpoint, as best as one can determine, of basically all of the GOP's leadership. Insofar as the party stated that to be their platform via direct statement and the words & actions of their leader, and then set of people we might loosely refer to the collective set as "the right" proceeded to then vote for our current president, that vote becomes an endorsement of that platform. Sure, there might be someone on "the right" who doesn't hold that view, but we're in the exception-proves-the-rule territory, or more commonly it seems these days "the leopards are eating my face".
- baggachipz 4mo agoThe closest thing "the right" has to an instruction book is Project 2025, and they've made a lot of progress in enacting their goals right under our noses. The constant distraction, misdirection, and seeming insanity is a feature, not a bug. We can't "heal" because _they don't want to heal_. They want to see their agenda to completion, which includes total domination and expulsion/extermination of their opponents, who they define.
- deathanatos 4mo agoI'm well aware of Project 2025, but given that the person above was trying to refute the right as a group with set goals, I wanted to stick closely to stances that the GOP doesn't deny is theirs. (Whereas with Project 2025, the GOP — falsely — denies that that's their stance.) But the GOP does also publish an official party platform, and that document, again, is pretty clear about stripping rights being a core part of the platform.
- yndoendo 4mo agoI don't see politics as left and right. To me they are in the shape of a Radar chart or Radial Column chart or Sunburst diagram. People in real life are multi-facet not singularly polar. People with agendas and grifters are polar. Polarization is also for those that want to be self-defined by a party. I also do not support news or other agencies that reject STEMM or use questions to mask direct lying.
- willismichael 4mo agoI'm impressed that you were able to cancel SiriusXM. I thought that it was set up to cling to people for life, and possibly continue billing their estate after death.
- tombert 4mo agoI think they actually got in trouble with a lawsuit over that? FWIW I canceled my SiriusXM like a year ago and it wasn't too hard. Just a web form.
- baggachipz 4mo agoAll they do now is hound you incessantly until the end of time with a rock-bottom price for 6 months.

- tombert 4mo agoWhen I got my house, I needed to set up internet, and Verizon FIOS was what I went for. I called them to get it set up, and when I suggested the internet dude on the line kept trying to upsell me TV packages. I was polite at first but eventually I said something like "listen, I don't want your 'Movie Lovers' package. I don't want your 'Sports Fan' package. I don't want your 'Family Entertainment' package. I don't want your 'Comedy Lover' package. I just want internet. I do not want anything but internet. If you pitch more more packages I will still only want internet". Admittedly a little rude, but the guy did get the point after that and he was perfectly helpful getting everything set up.
- baggachipz 4mo agoI'm sure they're forced to do that and graded on how many upgrades they sell. Their bosses will even listen on calls and if they don't make all those pitches, they'll get written up or fired. Source: seen it first-person.
- tombert 4mo agoYeah, I wasn't really upset with the guy for reading his script. I'm sure he was doing what he was trained to do. I figured that if I gave the little diatribe then I kind of figured that he wouldn't get in trouble for just moving on.
- account42 4mo agoBut that's only more reason to push back firmly.
- Marsymars 4mo agoWhat's really obnoxious is that that in Canada, you can't get a basic cable bundle without an American Fox News affiliate included.
