This has been predicted as one of the higher-paying jobs that will remain after AI takes the lower-value ones. Entirely human touch, and while someone can crank out many many sex bots eventually, humans will retain cache. Of course the profession is more lucrative for the more physically attractive (and intellectually attractive), but the same is true for many fields. Unfortunately, the elite market is going to be for those who own the AI, while the basic market will be open to those dependent on UBI.

- KellyCriterion 4mo agoAlso my theory: In a very far future when AI & robots have taken over, call girls will be among the by far highest earners across all jobs. That is not going to be tomorrow or in 10 years, therefore "in a very far future", but its clear that this will happen (unless other effects like prohibition of that business may kick in)

- quantified 4mo agoIt sort of happens with prohibition too. And illicit activities have higher price tags than licit ones.
- jquery 4mo agoWhy? Wouldn't it be the opposite? If people are just gonna roleplay having an actual relationship, robots can do that cheaper and better in the future.

- jquery 4mo agoIsn't this just a rollback to emperors and concubines with new names? Musk already has something like 14 concubines that we know of. Probably a lot more we don't. Late stage capitalism is truly something else.
