Driver, 87, dies after Tesla on Autopilot mode crashes into pond
- binaryturtle 4mo agoAnd so it starts… modern robot machinery wiping out all humans? And for now they make it look like random accidents? Sci-fi aside: We probably will see a slow but very steady increase of such events in the coming years with more unnecessary automation applied everywhere.
- grassfedgeek 4mo agoDon't let one company's failure tarnish the entire field.
- tosti 4mo agoAmazon had a robot incident, Google, probably others too.
- 48terry 4mo agoI was assured last week that things like this are fine and we should be responsible adults by settling for "good enough" when it comes to self-driving cars. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48226864 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48226864
- qwerpy 4mo agoYeah but that was Waymo. This time it’s Tesla.
- 7e 4mo agoExactly. Waymo is already much better at driving than Tesla will ever be. They deserve a pass for actually moving the technology forward.
- jfengel 4mo agoIt's absolutely not fine. But I would note that we are already settling for "good enough" by letting those responsible adults cause 6 million accidents and 40,000 deaths. Tesla's Autopilot is worse. But people aren't great. I hold out a tiny modicum of hope that the cars will get better. If not Elmo's version, then somebody's. Because the people are not getting better, and are arguably getting worse.
- lousclues 4mo agoI'm cool with letting human beings stay in charge of operating motor vehicles.
- atmavatar 4mo agoNo desire to vibe drive?
