US data brokers sold Americans' location data to foreign adversaries
- jqpabc123 4mo agoBottom line: Selling data to *anyone* means it is not only possible but highly likely that foreign adversaries can easily obtain the data. The reason why should be obvious. Because there is no reasonable way to maintain control over the data once it is sold. And no KYC requirement for buyers. The brokers probably really don't know (and may not care) who the buyer is. This registry for data brokers is ineffective and meaningless.

It's not enough that Toyota (sadly I don't think they're unique) doesn't sell my car location data [1] - I don't want Toyota having that data either! - hulitu 4mo ago> sadly I don't think they're unique no, they are not. Volkswagen was the subject of a famous talk at CCC about this. And other car manufacturers do the same (collect and sale data).
