A super easy one: Step on a scale and see what your BmI is. Or you can get a DEXA scan to see how much visceral fat you have, or buy a over the counter CGM to monitor your blood insulin levels, or go for a run around the block and see how quickly you are out of breath, etc.
To go with your car driver analogy, we can equate the metabolic lack of health to a number of beers that a person has before they go for a drive. The more unhealthy/drunk the more dangerous it is for them to go out and do things in the world.
- ceejayoz 5mo agoNo, those are ways to know if you’re unhealthy. How do you know in advance if you’re one of the minority of “metabolically healthy” people who still get severe COVID? Safe drivers still get in accidents, after all.
- KetoManx64 5mo agoI guess the same way that you know in advance if you're one of the minority of people who will get blood clots or one of the other life long complications after getting vaccinated?
- ceejayoz 5mo agoWe can't know that in advance, which is why vaccine safety is determined by statistics rather than anecdotes. What we do know is that the vaccines are largely protective against such clots, because unchecked COVID causes them. https://heart.bmj.com/content/110/9/635 https://heart.bmj.com/content/110/9/635
