ACLU Secures $485,000 Settlement for FWC Biologist Fired over Charlie Kirk Post
- jqpabc123 6mo agoIn a number of these cases across the country, supposed fans of Charlie Kirk disparage the very thing he supposedly stood for --- free speech. The reality does not match the rhetoric.

- ceejayoz 6mo agoYou’ll find the difference here is that the First Amendment applies to government acts. I can fire you for protected speech! The government largely can’t. Plus, in this case, misconduct: “state officials falsely claimed her private post caused significant operational disruption and generated hundreds of public complaints; discovery in the case revealed those claims to be fabricated”
- freddealmeida 6mo agoThat post was disgusting. He shouldn't find a job anytime soon. But being fired for speech is wrong. So from that point, he deserves the settlement. But I certainly don't want to be near someone that revels in someone's assassination.

- ceejayoz 6mo agoThe post in question: > “the whales are deeply saddened to learn of the shooting of charlie kirk, haha just kidding, they care exactly as much as charlie kirk cared about children being shot in their classrooms, which is to say, not at all” Seems pretty meh for a firing reason.
