We just got a modern example of the classic message from a friend who just picked up programming, containing: "I just created my own web app, wanna check it out? It's here: http://localhost:8080"
- m463 5mo agoreminds me of telling a friend: I hacked your system: file:///etc/passwd
- z2 5mo agoI've been getting this weekly from colleagues. It's very much an epidemic right now! And the port number is indeed almost always a random number between 8000 and 8100.
- a012 5mo agoWait until they discovered the port number could go over 9000

- aurmc 5mo agoA lot of people here have colleagues who are playing with Claude Code but who have essentially no experience with development at all. It’s not at all surprising. Not everyone is a developer.
- wiseowise 5mo agoNot sure about dumb, but "not giving a shit" for sure. I routinely see tickets with markdown links to files on their local filesystem, drives me insane how someone can pull shit like this with a straight face.
- 0x38B 5mo agoDifferent context, but I sent a message like that in Signal the other day to a family member with a link to my IP, pointing to `Python -m http.server` running in a directory with a file for them to try (1). Easier than having them open my Samba share. 1: To get an Android app working that has been delisted and requires a 'key' app that you purchase. We did purchase it, but didn't think to make any backups.
