Of course the United States, since its inception, has a perfect track record of treating women and minorities (sarcasm).
US foreign policy stifles natural progress and evolution in many countries in the Middle East.
- Turing_Machine 14y ago"Of course the United States, since its inception, has a perfect track record of treating women and minorities " More or less continuous improvement over time. Unlike what we've seen in, say, Afghanistan and Iran. Your point?
- mkhattab 14y agoYou do realize that the US has been intervening in Iran and Afghanistan for decades, right? The Soviet war in Afghanistan, during the late 80s in which the US was involved in support of the Mujahideen, widely considered to be the cause of blowback. Speaking of blowback, the Iranian revolution against the US-backed Shah in the late 70s. A few decades is hardly enough time for "continuous improvement."
- Turing_Machine 14y ago"You do realize that the US has been intervening in Iran and Afghanistan for decades, right?" Of course. That was more or less the point. The U.S.-backed Shah of Iran (who was, let's make no mistake, an authoritarian dictator) was ejected and women's rights immediately took a profound backward step. Do you deny it?
- meric 14y agoWhen US installed the Shah as a dictator of Iran, the social policies of Iran took a profound backwards step. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad_Mosaddegh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad_Mosaddegh
