Colombian singer Shakira acquitted of tax fraud in Spain
- fodmap 5mo agoThis is a great victory because Spain's tax system contains structural mechanisms that turn 'Hacienda' into judge and jury, incentivising the aggressive pursuit of taxpayers. https://spanishtaxpickpockets.com/ https://spanishtaxpickpockets.com/
- tecleandor 5mo agoWhat, a law firm that represent billionaires, Russian oligarchs, and tax avoiding digital nomads acting against taxes? They can leave our beaches if they don't like paying taxes, we won't miss them.
- neksn 5mo ago…she was told she had to pay taxes that she didn’t owe. It was a shakedown, which is quite common for the Spanish tax agency.
- tecleandor 5mo agoAnd I understand it when you owe tens of millions of euros and plenty of resources to make everything properly.
- neksn 5mo agoShe did everything properly, but the tax agency illegally imposed a fine on her anyway. Remember that in Spain the tax agency loses 51 % of trials. I assume the percent would be even higher if everybody could afford to defend themselves.
- tecleandor 5mo agoAnd the other 20 million Euros she settled for the next fiscal years?
- tecleandor 5mo agoThat's just ridiculous. Her kids are schooled in Barcelona.
- harshreality 5mo agoThe article is rather explicit that the acquittal is only about tax year 2011. She already settled a case about her taxes from 2012-2014 by paying a €7.3m fine. Her first child was born in January 2013.
- tecleandor 5mo agoThanks, although it doesn't mention that the other charges went through and she paid for them until the previous to last paragraph, so it's very confusing...
