That's the point?
Social media is simply share x thing with either the world or a group of people or an individual.
The issue is when that is manipulated into you need to spend more time on them artificially.

Get rid of the very site you're on then? > issue is when that is manipulated into you need to spend more time on them artificially Yeah, like how hn has an algorithm that ranks stories to maximise engagement... obviously this is not bad but somehow tiktok is bad

- bcjdjsndon 5mo agoSo it's ok if hackernews "manipulated (me) into (needing) to spend more time on them artificially" because it's tech? Can you see the mental gymnastics is you're having to pull up make this work?
- 0dayz 5mo agoNope, the key difference is the blast radius, with hn you might buy into very specific policies related to tech while on TikTok you can be exposed to seemingly endless directions even though you just wanted to watch tech.
- bcjdjsndon 5mo ago> can be exposed to seemingly endless directions even though you just wanted to watch tech. Oh you mean like Google search or maybe Wikipedia? Are we still talking about social media here because "exposed to seemingly endless directions even though you just wanted to watch tech." could happen on any website...
