Notepad++ Mac Port Renamed Nextpad++ After Trademark Row
- thegrim33 6mo agoWhen I saw this headline my mind automatically interpreted Nextpad++ as Notepad++, I had to stop and fully parse through the headline before realizing there was actually an 'e' in there instead of an 'o'. They really chose the least indistinguishable new name that they possibly could have. In reality there's only a couple pixels of difference between the two names.
- tartoran 6mo agoI agree but it's at least it's not infringing with Notepad++ name. This is an unofficial port of Notepad++ to Mac without permission from the original project.
- dormento 6mo agoIMHO the '++' still looks so... dishonest? Maybe that's not the right word. I mean, it would be fitting if it were a modern version of something called "Nextpad" (which it isn't).
- altairprime 5mo agoThey definitely risk losing a formal lawsuit over similarity of purpose & field with explicit intent to confuse those seeking the original marked product, assuming the mark holder pursues that claim. I sure hope they do.
- halJordan 5mo agoNo, ++ isnt a thing owned by anyone and let's not let our feelings for notepad++ color our minds to try and force it into an ownership thing.
- jaffa2 5mo agoSomeone aid this last time but it should have ben named textpad++
- poglet 5mo agoCan anyone recommend me a notepad++ like app for Linux?

- halJordan 5mo agoLiterally vim. I'll see myself out the door lol (but I am right).
- KetoManx64 5mo agoSublimeText was/is my goto after I switched from Windows to Linux.
- crossroadsguy 5mo agothis coming to Mac is a little too little and a little too late. Notepad++ void has been successfully filled with many lightweight native editors, some are FOSS, which are quite mature. And with this drama (read: shady, suspicious etc) one would be better served to stay away from it, at least for a while. BBEdit, Sublime, TextMate, TextEdit (yes, it's actually useful in plain-text mode :P), CodeEdit etc. My fav is SubEthaEdit and then there's CotEditor and these are just too good. https://github.com/subethaedit/SubEthaEdit https://github.com/subethaedit/SubEthaEdit https://github.com/coteditor/CotEditor https://github.com/coteditor/CotEditor https://github.com/CodeEditApp/CodeEdit https://github.com/CodeEditApp/CodeEdit (Note: And nope, Xcode isn't that. It's a monstrosity devs have to endure if they want to write and publish for Apple)
