I still follow Dimitry on twitter for his technical talent, as I've done some palmOS software reversing as well, but man every other post is something along the lines of "we should let X group fend for themselves in a rattlesnake pit because they don't produce value".
All to say it's a major bummer his cool work is tainted by his dehumanizing words and I wonder if he understands how he comes off to people.
- xyzzy_plugh 5mo agoThis puts it rather lightly. I stopped following him when he started posting incredibly racist memes.
- MSFT_Edging 5mo agoYeah I was trying to keep it civil for HN. The whimsy of the PalmOS work really clashes with the incessant racism and hate.
- contingencies 5mo agoUnfortunately that general part of the world has a lot of ethno-religious conflict normalized from birth. Monotheistic zealotry, current conflicts, Greece/Turkey, former Yugoslavia, etc.

- harrouet 5mo agoAny part you are referring to? I can't find any personal attack. I actually like his writing style. I think he just speaks his mind in full honesty and you should not interpret it as aggressivity.

- superxpro12 5mo agoThats.... not right? She's becoming more and more anti-trans every day. Harmless is a mischaracterization of her stances.

- cityu 5mo agoActually she's standing up for women's rights. If this upsets the misogynists, so be it.
- superxpro12 5mo agoLet's agree to disagree. It's possible to support women's right and trans rights at the same time. It's the exclusion that ultimately leads to the damaging aspects of this "policy".
- cityu 4mo agoSo when she says: "Women should not be limited, punished or abused because of their femaleness, but their being female is an observable fact. It is also the basis for their historic oppression. Replacing verifiable sex with gender identity helps nobody but men trying to take women's rights." And: "Of course trans-identified men have the right to exist. They have the same rights to employment, housing, the vote and personal safety as every other citizen. However, they aren't entitled to enter women's reserved spaces or sports, because they are male." And: "I don't believe there's such a thing as 'gender' in the way trans activists use it, ie, as an inner male or female essence that is independent of the sexed body, so it's a matter of total indifference to me what an individual trans person looks like or how well they pass. They're free to identify however they like, whatever they look like. The clash of rights starts when they demand my compelled speech and that I, the law and the whole of society agrees they're a member of the opposite sex." How are you interpreting her perspective as not being fundamentally based on women's rights advocacy?
- EvanAnderson 5mo agoDmitry was interviewed on the Unnamed Reverse Engineering podcast[0] a few years ago. I didn't feel like he came off at all like that in that interview, at least. I don't interact w/ Twitter so I can't speak to anything he's written there. [0] https://unnamedre.com/episode/2 https://unnamedre.com/episode/2

- shermantanktop 5mo agoIt's dehumanizing to reduce people to productivity.
- newsclues 5mo agoIs it dehumanizing for you two split your income in two and send half to me so I can sit at home and get baked gooning all day? It would be dehumanizing for you to reduce me to productivity and refuse to fund my life.
- MSFT_Edging 5mo agoThis comment is a good example of dehumanization. To argue a group is unworthy of life or dignity is dehumanization. It paves the path for policy that targets certain groups, to formalize violence against the groups as legal.
- newsclues 5mo agoReading is hard, but I didn’t argue anyone is unworthy of life. I was saying it sucks for the people who are winning from their hard work, see others who didn’t win get the rewards. But if you are one of the losers who got a participation trophy I understand why you resent this idea.
- shermantanktop 5mo agoGuarantee there’s a pile of people who disagree with you and make far more than you, and a bunch who agree but make far less (presumably “losers”). One’s paycheck or bank account might suggest a viewpoint but there are lots of exceptions.
- seany 5mo agoWhat's his x handle? It doesn't seem linked from his blog
- RIMR 5mo agoThe guy refers to social media broadly as "brain rot" in this article, and your first question is what his handle is on the most rotten social media site on the Internet? I'd wager he doesn't use X.

- LeoPanthera 5mo agoPeople who continue to use Twitter today have made their positions clear. Frankly, that includes you, too. You can't hang out at the Nazi Bar and complain about all the Nazis.
- random__duck 5mo agoMeet him IRL, I will vouch for him being cynical and a pleasure to be around.
