I've seen a lot of headaches caused by that trailing dot in the past! IIRC Caddy specifically said they wouldn't support that, leading to a medium-sized flamewar in an issue or PR. Clearly the trailing dot is theoretically highly appropriate, but it seems like we're so far down the opposite path that we should all agree that every domain, sadly, should always be fully qualified.
