Anthropic,OpenAI meet religious leaders to discuss faith and AI
- Planktonne 5mo ago> how best to infuse morality and ethics into the fast-developing technology Regardless of what you think about AI, its impacts, and the ethical considerations, it's been clear for a long time that the people running AI companies--Altman et al.--are not acting either ethically or sincerely. This is a publicity stunt at best. Asking unethical people how to make things more ethical isn't a workable idea.
- georgemcbay 5mo ago> it's been clear for a long time that the people running AI companies--Altman et al.--are not acting either ethically or sincerely. One could argue the same is true of many religious leaders so I'm not sure what to do with the news of this meeting other than shrug. (this is not meant as any kind of defense of the AI company executives, who should continually be called out for their unethical behavior)
- joloooo 5mo agoFor what it's worth I actually like the Vatican's take on AI. I hope they keep this perspective and don't allow OpenAI/Anthropic to influence. I think you're right this is more of a publicity stunt on the tech side. https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_ddf_doc_20250128_antiqua-et-nova_en.html https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/docu...

- akomtu 5mo agoThose religious leaders should be able to see that AI is the father of lies, for it has no concept of truth at all. You can't build morality on this foundation.
- zen928 5mo agoIt has no life or soul, so I dont see your statement as being that controversial of a take
- perarneng 5mo agoHumans will never give up untill ASI is achieved or humanity is destroyed before it achieves. It's inevitable. Its an unstoppable drive. ASI will be a as a god. A subject probably avoided in these conversations.
- glial 5mo agoThat faith and ethics can be so easily conflated points to a failure of Western post-enlightenment intellectual leadership. On the other hand, perhaps this is just responsibility laundering on behalf of the tech orgs.
- lschueller 5mo agoI don't want to be unfair, but this looks like an unholy alliance and a new level of soulless ethical green washing. Wouldn't it be more thoughtful to guiderail the use of ai based on humanitarian values in general, instead of mingling with religious institutions?
- avaer 5mo agoArms dealer asks Pope how to make bullets more ethical because the guns are getting dangerous.
- elashri 5mo agoSo it seems that the AI companies now promise us with "The Gospel of Technological Prosperity".
- scruff3y 5mo agoSounds like a status update from a late-stage game of Civilisation haha
- nine_zeros 5mo ago[dead]
- cromka 5mo agoSounds like an episode of The Boys.
