The more cameras we have (in everyone's pocket, in the streets, in the sky), the less "sightings" we have (of UFO and cryptids).
Tells you something.
- 6stringmerc 6mo agoYeah, that an advanced intelligent entity, like me, is averse to having their photo taken by any old yokel who will post it online for clout. That’s the correct interpretation, yes?
- nolok 6mo agoNo the interpretation is that the more we could prove it if real, the less we do Sailors saw mermaids all the time too, I don't think they're all hiding under a rock since we invented the camera
- jayGlow 6mo agosailors also reported seeing kraken as well, they were eventually proven right with the giant squid.
- nolok 6mo agoExactly, that's the point : if it's true/right, we are now able to prove it with evidence. If it's not, suddently we don't see it anymore.
- wredcoll 6mo agoThey reported seeing a lot of other things as well. Rationalizing that as "they were right about big squids existing" is a bit of a stretch.
- Art9681 6mo agoIt wouldn't have the same appeal if they reported seeing "larger than average size squids we didnt know existed". Every story was embellished in a world without pocket cameras. And the further you go back, the more grand the fiction was. Tales of men splitting the sea and walking on water. It is all very highly entertaining.
- wredcoll 6mo agoWait, your argument is that aliens and bigfoot are just camera shy?
- GolfPopper 6mo agoLots of gorgeous images as a result, though: https://www.gettyimages.com/photos/sun-dogs https://www.gettyimages.com/photos/sun-dogs
- arcastroe 6mo agoI remember being amazed when I saw this as a kid and told everyone I had seen a "rainbow around the sun". I've never seen it again in person. Maybe I've learned not to stare in the direction of the sun. But thank you for teaching me it's called a sundog!
- sethammons 6mo agoAnd still no good photos of the moon from our pocket cameras
- sandworm101 6mo agoMandatory XKCD: https://xkcd.com/1235/ https://xkcd.com/1235/
- tzs 6mo agoIt might just be telling you that people spend so much time staring down at their phones they don't notice anything happening in the sky anymore.
- carlosjobim 6mo ago> Tells you something. It would tell you that they are not of this world. The same way as you can't photograph (other) spiritual experiences.
- ComplexSystems 6mo agoPeople can and do see unidentified things and take plenty of photos of them.
- Art9681 6mo agoThis is the truth. If these "phenomena" where real we wouldn't question it. None of these reports would be necessary. It would just be common knowledge. It's the modern day equivalent of Big Foot or Nessie and its relevance will wither away with the current generations.
