If software can be "conscious" then we need a new word to describe what it is that a person has that makes me care about them in a way I never would care about the output of a program.
Fighting about semantics is not as interesting as the question of whether we should care about and give rights to a program running in memory like we do the owner of a human brain.

- Traubenfuchs 5mo agoSome loonies fell for their AI girlfriend, so my half-response to you would be: Whatever it is, AI has it too, but different people have different thresholds to recognize it as such.
- gdulli 5mo agoYou can get a baby monkey to nurse from a fake wire mannequin mother but it doesn't make sense to say the mannequin has what a real monkey has. Not in a sense that's meaningful for defining monkeyhood.
