Entrepreneurshit? Bitch Please
- fwr 14y agoI never want to see "Bitch Please" on the HN frontpage.
- frankwiles 14y agoPerhaps not the best choice of words for a wide audience, but the overall message is spot on.
- idan 14y agoIt's the title of the article, and what—"Shit" is permissible but "Bitch" isn't? There's some really good content here.
- calibraxis 14y agoYeah, it's a word used to put down females. Whereas I couldn't care less about "shit." Please edit; flagged until edited.
- bitch_slapper 14y agoOh no, we wouldn't want a few females to potentially be offended by our choice of words! Bitch, please. What's next, no rape jokes? Or are those okay because men get raped too?
- davidkatz 14y agoAuthor here. I'm not a fan of swearing, but I felt that 'Shit' deserved an equally emotional response. Perhaps a mistake.
- davidkatz 14y agoSorry about that. I'm not a native english speaker. To my ear, 'Shit' and 'Bitch' has about the same potential offense.
- fwr 14y agoIt's not that it's a swear word, it's that "bitch please" feels to me like something straight out of memes/rage comics. Things like this impacted hugely on reddit's quality downfall, and I wouldn't be too avid to see this happen here.
- davidkatz 14y agoGotcha. Next time, I'll watch my swearing more carefully.
- volaski 14y agoNot everyone is like you, who's satisfied with a small business making enough money to get by with a relatively satisfactory life. People who risk everything to make something happen don't deserve to hear "Bitch please". The people who wake up at 4am are the ones do it because they chose that life, never because VCs push them to.
- davidkatz 14y agoAuthor here. Everyone can make their own choices. My 'Bitch Please' (which was perhaps an over reaction to 'Shit') is in no way addressed to Entrepreneurs, but to Mark Suster, who paints Entrepreneurship as shitty. About VCs - they don't push anyone, but they enable it.
- jonromero 14y agoI agree. Nobody said that having a small business that is making enough money to live a happy life is a bad thing. But lots of us are driven by the ambition to build something bigger. That's the driving force. Not some VC.
- jblow 14y agoAs someone who worked calmly for years and made a quite reasonable amount of money, while retaining full control over everything, I must recommend the author's approach.
