You're being kind of rude right now, yes. You can present your points without being annoyingly patronizing. When you do construction, or any other event, you need to actually ask the city to put signs down monopolizing the road. It's not just there for you to take it. This is because the road is there for cars and bicycles and sometimes pedestrians too. Obviously the nature of being a person capable of thinking means that I should not walk/bike/drive into the intersection just because the light turned green if I see someone blasting through it anyway. But that does not mean they should be there, just like people are not supposed to park in the bike lanes.
