Tonido: A Dropbox alternative for SMBs
- aristidb 14y agoWhat's wrong with Dropbox again?
- minm 14y agoThere are many reasons: 1. Security 2. Dropbox is not suitable for professionals like Lawyers, Accountants, Tax professionals and Healthcare providers 3. EU and Canada Data privacy laws require certain companies to store data inside the country 4.You cannot brand dropbox for your business. You can brand Tonido. 5.You cannot run dropbox in your domain. With Tonido you can. Do you want more reasons?
- avree 14y agoAt least 50% of your comments/submissions are plugging Tonido. Do you work for them?
- minm 14y agoI am stating the facts here. If you have anything to refute the facts let us talk about that. So what is your interest in Dropbox?
- lubos 14y agoNo, this is not how we roll here. If you have any association with the company, you put it in disclaimer to reveal bias.
- jimktrains2 14y agoAlternativly you could just point out where he is wrong or show that Tonido isn't a unique player in the market. I agree, biases should be revealed, but just berating him and not his argument doesn't move anything forward.
- carterschonwald 14y agoSuitable in what sense? I certainly know lawyers who use dropbox.
- minm 14y agoAs a lawyer, you have professional obligations to protect your client's confidential information. Storing it in a public cloud services provides unfettered govt access if they choose to. I hope u heard about the petraeus Incident.
- Shorel 14y agoI have one Dropbox folder. It is linked to my account. I have several GIT folders one for every project. Other people have access to some of the GIT folders and the files there don't count against some global quota linked to my account. I want to have several Dropbox folders in the same computer, that's all.
- rogerbinns 14y ago> I want to have several Dropbox folders in the same computer, that's all. If they are all from the same Dropbox account then it already works, although you may need to use symbolic links or equivalents. If there are multiple Dropbox accounts then you can do it on Linux because they also have command line tools which you can run as separate instances pointing to different accounts (clean up environment and set $HOME).
- Shorel 14y agoNo, the whole point is to not to be tied to a single account in Windows.
- zdw 14y agoAnd this is superior to decentralized solutions like git-annex (for devs) or owncloud (for non-devs) how?
- tteam 14y agoTonido is self hosted solution like git-annex and owncloud. It is much simpler, more nature and comprehensive support for all mobile platforms
- pacomerh 14y agoI'd recommend wuala, free 5gb with encryption. http://www.wuala.com/ http://www.wuala.com/
- explorigin 14y agoAs the owner of a TonidoPlug2, the wifi doesn't stay connected (proprietary kernel module crashes). Also the web interface software is slow and dated (but capable). It would be awesome to have OwnCloud on the TonidoPlug hardware.
- provokeme 14y agoJungle disk FTW
