Why is it called frontier and why is it called a frontier ai lab?

  Because they are based on [the west coast of the US](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_frontier https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_frontier). DeepSeek, Z.ai, Moonhsot, and Mistral are never called frontier because they aren't based in California.
