I would be slightly hesitant to put the improvement in stability purely down to Windows 8. On average, the Windows 8 installs will be newer and fresher than the XP and W7 ones, and Windows has a bit of a reputation of detioriating with use. Finally, early adopters are far more likely to buy highly specced machines, rather than cheaper machines that are not up to the job.
