I'll admit, partially it was because I was sitting next to Jeremy as he was pulling backbone out of the documentcloud workspace and into a soon-to-be-released javascript library. Otherwise, the community has embraced Backbone.js and, for better or for worse, you're swimming in the biggest pond. That means more community driven updates and support, as well as more competition to stand out from in the newest javascript writing convention.
