Elon Musk admits that Tesla vehicles won't get unsupervised FSD
- noja 6mo agounsupervised FSD? Is that the same as FSD?
- tzm 6mo agoThis is a misleading post, of course they can/will. Elon's comment is referencing a specific a memory bandwidth limitation of HW3 (1/8 memory). The solution is to upgrade to > HW4 as a retrofit.
- breve 6mo agoIt's a new computer and new cameras. What's your plan for doing the upgrades? Tesla says it's too hard and they still don't have a plan: https://electrek.co/2026/04/22/tesla-will-build-factories-just-to-retrofit-hw3-cars-it-said-could-do-fsd-but-cant/ https://electrek.co/2026/04/22/tesla-will-build-factories-ju... And HW4 is already obsolete: https://electrek.co/2026/04/23/tesla-hw4-plus-upgrade-will-hw4-follow-hw3/ https://electrek.co/2026/04/23/tesla-hw4-plus-upgrade-will-h...
- Zigurd 6mo agoThe claim was that all Teslas with version three of their onboard computing would become fully self driving. That's now definitively untrue. But, it isn't as if upgrading to the version four hardware will guarantee that you can get fully unsupervised self driving. No Teslas no matter what hardware in them is ready for fully unsupervised self driving. It's just a new gamble. You pay your money, you take your chances.
