It's not just "AI", people hate big tech in general. The overwhelming reaction I saw to the news that an Amazon datacenter got droned was "why is Iran helping us, and do they need coordinates for some other ones?" and I'd say not more than half that sentiment was because of AI. Major tech companies are basically all widely hated, and not just in a "ha ha Microsoft, blue screens, LOL" way but in an "I wish they would suffer actual, lasting harm in the actual real world" way.
