UK PM Starmer tells social media firms in No 10 meeting 'things can't go on ...
- chrisjj 7mo agoTrue title: Starmer tells social media firms in No 10 meeting ‘things can’t go on like this’
- Devasta 7mo agoWe are far, far beyond the stage where Zuck and Elon should have targeted sanctions against them like we would any Russian Oligarch. They are driving millions of people insane with the constant barrage of far right propaganda in their users feeds, and are totally disinterested in solving the problem.
- chrisjj 7mo agoAgreed. The root problem is insanity is good for (their kind of) business. The sooner govts. classify their product as like tobacco, the better.
- roryirvine 7mo agoThey've gone so far out of their way to prove that self-regulation isn't working. Recklessness to the point of self-destruction.
- JuniperMesos 7mo agoAttempts to regulate social media are attempts to engage in poltical censorship.
- chrisjj 7mo agoWhere's any politcal censorship? Its simply adressing a public health issue.
- JuniperMesos 7mo agoCharacterizing people seeing information on the internet as a "public health issue" that justifies censoring that information is insane totalitarianism. If I were a British citizen I would be trying to get Starmer and the 60+ backbenchers who called for a youth social media ban to get kicked out of parliament over this.
- chrisjj 7mo agoI hate to have to tell you, but the British govt. is also against people enriching uranium in their back gardens.
