After getting burned on faked/gamed ratings on a book trilogy where I had bought all three books before I started reading (they were terrible and I gave up during the second book), I now use Anna's archive to download a book and decide if I will pay for it later after reading at least some of it.
- brailsafe 6mo agoSeems like quite an eager purchase. Could you not have borrowed one of them from the library?

- brailsafe 6mo agoI guess I'm often a little surprised at how quickly people jump into things without trying them first; the method is somewhat incidental, except for the fact we have tax funded institution for borrowing books. I'll buy a book with little more than a recommendation, but I'm not inclined to buy a full series, or every book by a certain author up-front even if I had read the first one. Kind of like how some people will buy a full ski kit before ever having tried it.
