The crew of the IRIS Dena were warned twice by the US to abandon ship according to a report from one of the sailor’s father. They refused.
Not sure if it’s possible to treat enemies better than that. And I doubt the Iranians will treat a US pilot well. Look at how they treat their own citizens.
- srean 6mo agoCan you cite something to support this. Quite keen to read.
- asdff 6mo agoIf the source below is correct, the commander of the Dena ordered his troops to stay on the ship despite the warnings, there was a bit of a mutiny and the survivors are those who rejected those orders and jumped off. https://www.iranintl.com/en/202603071125 https://www.iranintl.com/en/202603071125
- RobotToaster 6mo agoThat doesn't seem like the most trustworthy source. >Established in May 2017 and funded by Saudi Arabia,[1][2][3][4][5][6] it actively promotes former Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi as the next ruler of Iran. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_International https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_International
- asdff 6mo agoIf anything that seems like it would lean American in its bias. Saudi are our allies as is the family of the former Shah.
- RobotToaster 6mo agoThat was exactly my point. The Saud regime also hate Iran for being Shia.
- ok_dad 6mo agoOK if I come to your car, declare you’re my enemy, and tell you to get out before I toss a Molotov at you, does that mean I can’t be tried for murder later if you refuse? This was a sneak attack outside of an established war zone, for an illegal war, so don’t try to conflate this as an attack on America’s enemies. The USA made them their enemies themselves.

- computerex 6mo agoThey were in international waters. This was literally a war crime according to international law. Even the killing of the Supreme leader was against international law.
- osiris970 6mo agoNot that I am supporting the war, against what statue is killing khamenei? You are targeting a military leader in an arm conflict. Seems clear cut
- computerex 6mo agoThe entire attack was illegal under international law: https://law.stanford.edu/2026/03/03/stanfords-allen-weiner-on-the-constitutional-and-international-law-questions-raised-by-the-iran-attack https://law.stanford.edu/2026/03/03/stanfords-allen-weiner-o... https://www.newser.com/story/384710/legality-of-khameneis-killing-is-a-murky-area.htm https://www.newser.com/story/384710/legality-of-khameneis-ki... His daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren were civilians. Intentionally targeting civilians is a war crime. Even if they were not targeted directly, an attack is illegal if: it fails to minimize civilian harm, or the civilian casualties are disproportionate to the military advantage International law is very clear on this point.
- CobrastanJorji 6mo agoThe ship was an unarmed vessel on its way to a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka and coming from an international maritime exercise hosted by India, which the United States also attended and participated in. The US torpedoed it, and when it sank, the US did not apparently attempt to rescue any of the Dena's crew. Fortunately, Sri Lanka showed up and saved 30 people. Mind you, the details of war are not always clear. The US says that the ship was armed, and it also says that they did make an effort to rescue the crew. The US does not explain why it failed to actually rescue anybody, of course.
- voganmother42 6mo agoThe US is busy shooting “drug boats” with no evidence, that is who they are now
- monooso 6mo agoI believe the phrase you're reaching for is "carrying out extra-judicial executions of civilians alleged to have been smuggling drugs."
- the_overseer 6mo agoOr shorter.. NAZIS!
- SV_BubbleTime 6mo agoI thought the people claiming they might be fishing boats with no fishing gear, 55gallon drums, in specially designed hulls with 6 engines, hauling ass out of known drug ports were just joking.
- voganmother42 6mo agoYeah, why check right? Not like we need evidence or any investigation… I saw some people leaving a known drug house yesterday, but fortunately I gunned down the whole family, no questions asked!
- pphysch 6mo agoNot sure how anyone can believe this while, as another commenter points out, the US is proudly and unilaterally murdering speedboat users in the Caribbean without any due process.
- computerex 6mo agoAmerica helped Israel kill THOUSANDS of children, and America just killed 150 school girls in Iran. America is a war criminal, plain and simple.
- Tomis02 6mo ago> Not sure if it’s possible to treat enemies better than that. If you can't imagine how, that says a lot about you.
- Ar-Curunir 6mo agoThe US Secretary of Defense is the one declaring that no quarter will be given. You don’t have to project your own shortcomings to other people.
