> For example, we have known about human caused climate change for decades and carbon emissions are just hitting their peak now And for the first few decades, human caused climate change was not even contested - then, when something started to be done about it, fossil fuel lobbies started channeling vast amounts of money to politicians and the media, and suddenly the issue became politicized and right-wing governments started rolling back regulations in the name of "competitiveness" (i.e. race to the bottom). So, in the next years, I'm afraid it could be considered a success if the rate of increase of carbon emissions actually continued slowing down instead of accelerating again...
