President's new science council: 9 billionaires and 1 scientist
- 2020science 6mo agoIt's an issue! As someone who's worked on science policy for decades, including time in the Beltway, you cannot develop a robust and world-leading science policy strategy with technologists alone!
- karmakaze 6mo ago...and you can with a single technologist?
- salawat 6mo agoPerhaps you don't understand peon. The technologist is there to take orders and execute. You thought you were being given input/a voice at the table? God, no. That's above your station. Now go on, shoo. Let the monied people talk. We'll call you when we need something done.
- ivell 6mo agoI would say still better than reality TV stars and ignorant podcasters.
- lostlogin 6mo agoMusk not being there is a huge success.
- throwawayqqq11 6mo agoWhich means no cure for my mind virus. I guess ill have to fall back to steak and raw milk then.
- bmitc 6mo agoBig f'ing surprise.
- brewcejener 6mo agoI bet we see some incredible vaccines released in the near future. We'll be sending patients to cure their cancer regularly on Mars.
- alphawhisky 6mo agoOne way trip of course.
- danbrooks 6mo agoThis feels like regulatory capture by the tech industry. Academic research needs representation as well.
- frogperson 6mo agoEveryday a new low. I shouldnt be surprised, but i cant believe someone could be so self serving and selfish.
- ticulatedspline 6mo agoNot that it matters much, pretty sure Trump is inadvisable.
- bediger4000 6mo agoWe should insist on the proper name, "oligarchs", perhaps with the adjective "Trump crony".
- dougg 6mo ago> focus on the opportunities and challenges that emerging technologies present to the American worker… None of the billionaires care about the challenges of these technologies to the American worker. One of them laid off 30,000 workers yesterday, and the rest have laid off hundreds of thousands more directly (in their words) BECAUSE of AI / emerging technologies. Just feels hypocritical and disrespectful
