Since we're doing this, I do wonder then: is going from a 1.3K input file to 21K peak memory usage (16x) really optimal? It's certainly a lot better than 1000x

Since we're doing this, I do wonder then: is going from a 1.3K input file to 21K peak memory usage (16x) really optimal? It's certainly a lot better than 1000x, sure, but still surprised me.
