I will never understand the accomodations people make for a pet which gives you so little in return. If most owners were 100% honest and in private I reckon at least 50% would admit their cat is an asshole.
I mean they don't even smile like a dog. They look miserable most of the time!
It's like an abusive relationship where nothing you do will please them LOL
Yes, I'm a dog person ;)
There must be something to the toxoplasmosis theory
- cestith 7mo agoI’m a dog person, but most cats are lower maintenance than most dogs.
- gib444 7mo agoHigh ROI though Does your cat welcome you every day when you come home like you're the most awesome person in the world? Doubtful! Dogs - hell yeah
- cestith 7mo agoWell, as I said I’m more of a dog person. I work from home and have for years, but if I step out to mow the lawn our little guy is frantic to greet me when I come inside. Cats, for me, are rather higher maintenance than for most, too. I’m not wheezing and coughing to death allergic. I am however runny nose; mildly itchy skin; and itchy, crusty, swollen closed eyes allergic to most cat breeds. Cute, though, and some are actually very friendly and even cuddly.
- drgo 7mo agoI recall reading that ~30% of humans have evidence of toxoplasmosis. But, it is unclear whether that is harming their intelligence. Statistically, cat owners have higher IQ than dog owners (pls do not shoot the messenger unless you want to provide further evidence of the validity of this observation).
- tptacek 7mo agoSure, I'll bite: there is no such thing as a sufficiently powered survey of validated tested IQ with "dog owner" and "cat owner" in the cross-tabs.
- gverrilla 7mo ago> so little in return. That's simply not true. You clearly never had a cat.
- gib444 7mo agoPray tell
- whackernews 7mo agoI will never understand the accommodations people make for pets that leave mountains of turd all over the streets for other people to walk in. Slobbering beasts that bark, kill wildlife and make your house smell like a wet towel. Eating a meal at their house is also disgusting as there are dog hairs EVERYWHERE even in the food. I’m an animal person by the way. Like actual wild animals.
- gib444 7mo ago> mountains of turd all over the streets for other people to walk in. That's on the owner. Btw cats shit everywhere as they roam freely, not dogs. (House cats are uncommon here) > Slobbering beasts that bark Owner (training) problem again if they bark all the time. Not all slobber > kill wildlife Oh you've confused dogs with cats again > and make your house smell like a wet towel. Fair > dog hairs EVERYWHERE even in the food. No cats have hair of course
- whackernews 7mo agoI have a strange feeling you’ve confused me for a cat person since you keep doing a comparison with cats? To me, cats are worse, and you’re right. Dogs shit in the street, cats shit all over your garden. I’ve seen dogs chase after and rag a baby deer to death, cats DECIMATE the local wildlife population. Birds, bye, frogs, bye, mice, bye, hedgehogs don’t come round when your neighbourhood is full of these things, I’ve seen one kill a butterfly for gods sake, anything that moves! And, yes, it’s all obviously on the owners and I can only guess that these people are selfish or just don’t really think about anything they’re doing. This is your classic general public behaviour. Buy an electric car, take out your recycling, and sign a petition online about the Orangoutangs in Borneo. Then buy a cat and drive to the shops that’s a ten minute walk down the road whilst drinking a can of Coke. Zero thinking.
