You're getting a window into just how much it sucks to be disabled and then have extra burdens put on you. I don't know this author, but I know someone else in a similar position and I absolutely understand where this anger comes from.
- newer_vienna 7mo agoRegardless of the condition of your life, harboring anger and malice never leads to fulfilment.
- kevinh 7mo agoSure, and if depressed people weren't sad, they'd be happier. 'Just don't get frustrated' isn't actionable advice.
- newer_vienna 7mo agoThat's not what I said. To feel an emotion is morally neutral, while to use your emotions to cause harm is wrong.
- johnnyanmac 7mo agoAnd where's the reaction of Karen using her apathy to harm someone who just wants to get their benefits and not go homeless? Apathy is an emotjon as well.
- crazygringo 7mo ago"Karen" is following procedure. She didn't create it. She's not choosing to harm anyone. The "no email" policy is not hers personally. She's entirely innocent here.
- kakacik 7mo ago> 'Just don't get frustrated' That's not the issue, not sure why you try to steer discussion that way. The issue is, that's not enough to be an asshole and have some respect or general approval for that. Every Karen making hell for entire neighborhood has some sad story behind, usually series of them and some are properly fucking horrible and heartbreaking to levels where this article reads like great easy chill life. I wish I was kidding, wife is GP and has to do basic psychiatric work too due to lack of available specialist doctors and the stories she hears almost daily... For example the amount of people who experienced sexual abuse as children with lifelong devastating consequences is fucking horribly high, but most go unreported even to close family so not part of any stats. To condense - this is not enough as an excuse, however harsh the life can be. Thus don't expect that much sympathies. I'd expect a bit higher empathy levels from folks here.
- dymk 7mo agoEasy to say that when you're not the blind person having their disability benefits threatened periodically
- squigz 7mo agoThe anger is not unjustified. Directing it at people who are nearly as helpless as you in the situation is not justified or remotely helpful. (I'm blind myself.)
