Who Tried to Put Age Verification into Linux (and Why?)
- SilverElfin 7mo agoDisturbing. The age verification laws pushed by Meta (https://www.gadgetreview.com/reddit-user-uncovers-who-is-behind-metas-2b-lobbying-for-invasive-age-verification-tech https://www.gadgetreview.com/reddit-user-uncovers-who-is-beh...) and other social media companies like Pinterest (https://time.com/article/2026/03/19/pinterest-ceo-governments-should-ban-social-media-for-kids-under-16/ https://time.com/article/2026/03/19/pinterest-ceo-government...) are dangerous breaches of our privacy on the internet. Who would willingly support their dystopian goals in the open source world?
- tim-tday 7mo agoBecause age verification is not about protecting children at all. It’s about creating a total surveillance state. (You can’t verify age without verifying identity) And once you see it like that the aggressive and dedicated pursuit makes a lot more sense. (Some people gain a lot of wealth and power by promoting that)
