I wouldn't bet on it, especially in an corporate setting. IT departments seem to love filling every inch of their firm laptop's CPU and RAM with security and remote access stuff. I've seen that same thing happen in every company I've worked for recently: high-end laptops sitting at 100% ressource usage absolutely all the time.

- _the_inflator 6mo agoPlease walk the walk. You never worked in a corporate environment. It is just as the author said: developers are a pretty new phenomenon after all in these companies and are after all suspiciously treated because of leakage. And as long as Word and Excel is starting on a business guy machine the day is saved. And controlling works this way: 10.000 machines? Wow what?! Those so called developers demand 32gb RAM? WTF!? Word doesn’t need that much and I can save 10.000 times 16 to 24gb, so let’s do it because I get paid by saving the company money!!! Meanwhile developer cost balloon because build times etc are through the roof. It is as dumb as it gets. Don’t try to play genius. Countless of people as well as so called “initiatives” have been done to balance total costs - without any success due to ignorance. I know first hand - I am the only one who ever saved Germany’s largest bank money by utilizing IT software build in-house. And believe me, I used genius as well as every possibility there was. It is brutal.
