I've read the introduction, guessed it will end in tragedy, skimmed fast through the article, jumped in the end and confirmed it ended in tragedy and saved myself from ruining my mood from reading something depressing.
- quietbritishjim 7mo agoEverything ends in tragedy eventually. They got some time together, so it's a happy story overall. It's all any of us could ask for.
- tonyedgecombe 7mo agoYou only read the depressing bits ;)
- abcde666777 7mo agoFunny, I always enjoy reading anything dark/morbid/depressing. Tends to have the opposite effect of putting a pep in my step - all those things add flavour and texture to life and make me appreciate being alive.
- dgxyz 7mo agoExactly that. Gives me a kick. Do stuff now. Don't wait.
- drysine 7mo agoYou have no empathy?
- tasuki 7mo agoThat's very uncharitable reading.
- drysine 7mo agoWhat's charitable one?
- tasuki 7mo agoThey replied to you already. I wish you had more empathy.
- drysine 7mo agoI don't buy it
- tasuki 7mo agoAs in you think they're lying? Or confused? Or something else entirely?
- drysine 7mo agoI don't know. I don't get how one can have empathy, feel down because of someone else's misery and enjoy it. Or not it itself, but something having it as a part.
- abcde666777 7mo agoInteresting. Well, I can only tell you that I'm not lying. I can totally picture and feel how she would feel. I understand the jubilation of falling in love, and I understand the pain of losing loved ones - especially when it's sudden, unexpected, and tragic. I've felt all of those things before in my own life. We all do, sooner or later. But pain is also what imbues things with meaning. All of the greatest human stories are about suffering and how we as humans respond to it. That's why it puts a pep in my step - because it's meaningful, provocative, evocative, and inspiritational. Life would be dull without loss. It's a radical perspective maybe, and maybe even an irrational one, but hey - it works for me!

- abcde666777 7mo agoOpposite, got a lot of it. But I do err on the less sympathetic side - I don't believe in feeling sorry for ourselves or each other under most circumstances. Life is a test of our resolve.
