The day I discovered type design
- sebastianmestre 7mo agoTFA is about letters, not programming in Haskell like I had assumed
- smitty1e 7mo agoOne is fascinated by how others can be enthralled by something that seems, at first blush, so much polishing of the cannon ball. But that's OK. The world is a better place for not being ruled by my bland tastes. If I had to design a typeface, I'd bring back retro characters like thorn: Þ.
- shdudns 7mo agoThorn would solve so many problems. For example, how do I write an h sound after t?
- furyofantares 7mo ago> Lettering design I did for my high school yearbook in 1974. Anyone else get an optical illusion effect from this? Looks like it's continually zooming out to me.
- fuzzylightbulb 7mo agoSame. Those colors were an intentional (and effective) choice
- jmcmichael 7mo agoyeah, that’s called chromostereopsis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromostereopsis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromostereopsis
- _0ffh 7mo agoI took a look and it's probably a color isoluminance effect.
- mosessupposed 7mo agoAh, that's the guy who designed my favorite typeface. I once ran a weekly newspaper that was about 70% Etna. It's a fabulous family, lots of character (and characters - heh) while still crazy versatile.
