+1 I can’t even delete my old stuff on HN. I don’t own my comments here. In contrast, I can go ahead and delete any of my Facebook posts or comments from 10 years ago. In a way, HN is more hostile than Facebook.
- vasco 7mo agoI'm sure I've read they support this if you email them. It's a manual action but if you're based in Europe they will have to do it by law.
- unmole 7mo ago> Europe they will have to do it by law. Realistically, they can simply ignore it with no consequences.
- tartoran 7mo agoDo you think that by deleting facebook posts anything gets deleted on Facebook's servers?
- andreygrehov 7mo agoIt likely gets physically deleted after 3-5 years, whereas on HN I can neither delete nor archive a comment or post I made yesterday.
- tartoran 7mo agoThat's the nature of HN though, there's nothign hidden taking place behind scenes, cookies, etc.. Everything is in plain sight. That's one of the reasons many people have anonymous handles on HN, they just don't disclose personal and stay anonymous. There are some people who do not care at all and post thier real identity as well as links to their personal websites, and such. There's a way to track someone using stylometry but that's an entire different story though...
- andreygrehov 7mo agoYes, I'm familiar. Don't know if you checked my profile, but I joined HN 12+ years ago.
