If traditional political journalists assume that the race is too close to call because both campaigns tell them so, then they are gullible chumps, plain and simple.
The losing campaign will try to claim the race is close because they don't want their supporters to be discouraged and not turn out.
The winning campaign will try to claim the race is close because they don't want their supporters to get lazy and not turn out.
