Show HN: Pano, a bookmarking tool built around shareable shelves
i built pano because i kept losing the things i actually wanted to come back to.
pano is an internet archiving tool that lets you save links into shelves that you can organize and share.
the problem for me was never finding things. it was keeping them. research papers, recipes, old blog posts, repos, tutorials, and random sites i found late at night would end up scattered across tabs, bookmarks, screenshots, saved posts, and pdfs. a few weeks later, they were effectively gone.
what i wanted was one place where saved links stayed organized, easy to navigate, and easy to share as a collection.
a lot of the work went into two things: metadata extraction and interface design. saved links are much less useful if they decay into unlabeled bookmarks, so pano tries to pull structured info like title, description, author, date, and type, with native handling for sites like youtube, github, reddit, substack, spotify, and others. i also spent a lot of time on the design, because i wanted saved links to feel browsable and worth returning to; more like a shelf than a utilitarian list of urls.
there’s also a chrome extension for one-click saving and a bulk import path for existing bookmarks.
i’m especially interested in whether the “shelf” model feels better than traditional bookmarks, and where the save / organize / share flow still feels clunky.
it’s free right now: panoit.com
- retep_kram 7mo agoWhat is the main difference between a "shelf" and a shareable folder? For what I understood, it is mainly that you can manually sort the entries on the shelf?
- jbstack 7mo agoSuggestion: drop the loading animation. I don't think many people are going to want to use something where they are forced to wait 10+ seconds before they can begin using it. If you absolutely must have it, have an obvious "skip" button and a "don't show again" checkbox.
- smusamashah 7mo agoI stop playing video games that force unskippable cut scenes. I definitely don't want the same on websites.
- k3vinw 7mo agoAt first I thought it was interactive. It would have been much cooler if it was ;)
- mkarliner 7mo agoYou may want to look at Karakeep which is what I use. https://karakeep.app/ https://karakeep.app/
- moritonal 7mo agoLeft before the loading animation finished.
- croisillon 7mo agoi like it and i like that it's free, for that reason i don't think you should evolve to save pictures too, that's where such a project starts costing money. what i would need to start using it: - more shelf levels - backup option - maybe it's a european thing but i like to know a bit more about the people behind it

- opan 7mo agoPano is also the name of the scrobbler I started using recently. My old one quit working (API changes?) and I found Pano Scrobbler on F-Droid. Weird to see the collision so soon after discovering the other.
- sodimel 7mo agoIf I understood it right, the app allows you to group links by categories (shelves), and share those categories pages? I haven't found any information about search, tagging, descriptions, saving content. Are those also available features?
- ferfumarma 7mo agoI bounced off the loading animation I thought the site was down/broken
- BoredPositron 7mo agoTerrible mobile experience on android.
- klueinc 7mo agoIt's how i've been using onetab for years. Simple clean and easily sharable.
