  The sentiment in France is that he was a scapegoat for his chain of command, who all knew what was going on. The CEO was "let go" in a very gentle way, but otherwise no one else was punished. The lawsuits were just CYA and leverage to make him shut up, which he didn't, he spilled the beans on his managers, so they threw him under the bus.
